Seasonal and Non-Realtime Data and Gages

Seasonal Gages

The USGS in Washington State operates a variety of gages throughout the State and collects a variety of data at those gages, see the latest active station and real-time station lists. Some gages, or some sensors (data) at gages, are operated for short periods, such as project stations for one to three years, or are operated for specific seasons. In the latter case, seasonal stations, the cooperator(s) are interested in only part of the year, usually the fall-to-spring season for flood warning, or spring-to-fall for low-flow or fisheries monitoring.

In the case where there is an interest to collect data at a gage or operate a seasonal station throughout the year or operate a short-term station past the operations of the project which established the station, we have a variety of program agreements to work with other agencies for the longer or year around operation of the gage. You can see the list of current cooperators and get more information on the types of program agreements.

Non-Realtime Gages

Although most gages in Washington State have satellite telemetry equipment to transmit real-time data through NOAA's Satellite Data Collection Service, some gages haven't been funded to install and operate a Data Collection Platform. These gages are routinely visited, usually every 4-8 weeks, to download and process the data into the database. When this work is completed, the data is automatically updated to the Web pages for the next 31 days. After 31 days the unit values data will no longer be displayed on the graphs until the next time the data is collected and processed.

In the case where there is an interest to operate a Data Collection Platform, we have a variety of program agreements to work with other agencies for this work. You can see the list of current cooperators and get more information on the types of program agreements.
