LOCATION - Lat 38°06'30.6", long 103°58'03.4" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SE 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.26, T.22 S., R.59 W., Otero County, CO, Hydrologic Unit 11020007, near center of span on upstream side of bridge on County Road 6, 3.4 mi southeast of Fowler, and 2.3 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,074 mi².

REMARKS - Water year 2014; records good except for estimated daily discharges, which are fair. Water year 2015; records good except for estimated daily discharges, which are fair. Water year 2016; no estimated daily discharges. Records good. Water year 2017; no estimated daily discharges. Records fair. Water year 2018; records fair except for the periods Dec. 8 to Jan. 12 and Feb. 9 to Sept. 30, which are poor. Water year 2019; records poor. Water year 2020; no estimated daily discharges. Records fair except for discharges above 270 ft³/s, which are poor. Water year 2021; records fair except for flows above 200 ft³/s, and estimated daily discharges, which are poor. A large amount of discharges are estimated based on beaver activity downstream gage. Water year 2022; records poor. Water year 2023; records fair except for flows above 40 ft³/s, and estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Natural flow of stream affected by erosion-control and livestock-watering reservoirs, diversions for irrigation, groundwater withdrawals, return flows from irrigated areas, and waste-water flows from Oxford Farmers Co. and Rocky Ford Highline canals.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 83,000 ft³/s, Aug. 22, 1923, from slope-area measurement of peak flow at site about 2 mi upstream from present site, caused by failure of Apishapa Dam, 31 mi upstream, gage height, unknown. Maximum gage height, 17.70 ft, July 31, 1951, site and datum then in use.
