LOCATION - Lat 36°59'59", long 108°11'17" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 SE 1/4 sec.10, T.32 N., R.13 W., La Plata County, CO, Hydrologic Unit 14080105, on right bank at Colorado-New Mexico State line, 0.5 mi downstream from Johnny Pond Arroyo, and 4.9 mi north of La Plata, NM.
DRAINAGE AREA - 331 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1313: 1934 (M), 1936 (M).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - January 1920 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1313.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemetry. Datum of gage is 5,972.03 ft above NGVD of 1929. See WSP 1713 or 1733 for history of changes prior to Mar. 17, 1934. Mar. 17, 1934 to July 1, 1996, water-stage recorder at same site, and at datum 3.12 ft higher.
COOPERATION - Records collected and computed by Colorado Division of Water Resources and reviewed by Geological Survey.
REMARKS - Water year 2014; records fair except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water year 2015; records fair except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water year 2016; records good except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water year 2017; records good except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water year 2018; records good except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Diversions upstream from station for irrigation of about 15,000 acres, mostly upstream from station.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 4,750 ft³/s, Aug. 24, 1927, from rating curve extended above 750 ft³/s, on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow, gage height, 11.36 ft, at datum then in use.
