02393500 ALLATOONA LAKE NEAR CARTERSVILLE, GA
LOCATION - Lat 34°09'49.7", long 84°43'39.8" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Bartow County, GA, Hydrologic Unit 03150104, at fore bay of dam on Etowah River, 2.8 miles upstream from Nashville, Chattanooga, & St. Louis Railway bridge, 4.0 miles east of Cartersville, GA, and 6.0 miles upstream from Pumpkinvine Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,122 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY -

Gage datum was revised on February 17, 2022 based on an error in the determination of the gage datum.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - July 2007 to current year. Elevation records collected at same site since February 1950 to June 2007 in files of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
GAGE - Satellite telemetry with a water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 0.18 feet above North American Vertical Datum (NAVD) of 1988.
REMARKS - Water-surface elevation records are generally good. Additional details on the accuracy of the records can be obtained by contacting the USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center at gs-w-ga_nwisweb_data_inquiries@usgs.gov.

Lake is formed by concrete gravity dam. Spillway (crest elevation, 835.0 feet) is equipped with nine tainter gates 40 feet wide by 25 feet high. There are four sluices 5.67 feet by 10 feet high and one sluice 4.0 feet in diameter. Storage began December 27, 1949; water in lake first reached minimum pool elevation February 5, 1950. Total capacity at elevation 860.0 feet, top of gates, is 670,000 acre-feet, of which 587,100 acre-feet is controlled storage above 800 feet, minimum pool. Lake is used for flood control and power.
