03287000 KENTUCKY RIVER AT LOCK 6 NEAR SALVISA, KY
LOCATION - Lat 37°55'32", long 84°49'17" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Woodford County, KY, Hydrologic Unit 05100205, on right bank at Lock 6, 1.5 miles upstream from Clear Creek, 2.1 miles east of Salvisa, and at mile 96.2. Auxiliary gage: Kentucky River at Lock 5 near Tyrone upper gage and at mile 82.2.
DRAINAGE AREA - 5,102 mi² of which 101 mi² probably is noncontributing.
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1385: 1926-27, 1928(M), 1929, 1931(M), 1932, 1933-34(M), 1935, 1937, drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1925 to current year. Prior to October 1953, published as "at Lock 6, at Warwick."
GAGE - Fixed weir dam with water-stage recorder/telemetry, full range of staffs, and crest stage gage. Datum of gage is 489.90 feet, Kentucky River datum or 487.89 feet above NGVD of 1929. Prior to November 1934, nonrecording gage at same site and datum. Auxiliary water-stage recorder with telemetry at Lock 5, 14 miles downstream. Prior to September 30, 1981, nonrecording gage at same site and datum.
COOPERATION - Kentucky River Authority, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District.
REMARKS -

Flow regulated since November 1925 by Herrington Lake (station 03286000), since December 1960 by Buckhorn Lake (station 03280800), since January 1976 by Carr Fork Lake (station 03277446), and by hydroelectric plant at Lock 7.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum gage height 49.04 ft. on December 10, 1978; maximum discharge 130000 ft³/s on December 10, 1978. Lowest daily mean discharge 83 ft³/s on September 4, 1984.
