Pleistocene Series
LOCATION - Lat 44°39'05", long 92°42'03" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in SW 1/4 SW 1/4 NE 1/4 sec.26, T.114 N., R.16 W., Goodhue County, MN, Hydrologic Unit 07040001, 5 miles south and 8 miles east of Hastings, Minnesota. The land surface at the site is 731.52 plus-or-minus 0.01 feet above the North American Vertical Datum of 1988.
GROUNDWATER RECORDS
WELL CHARACTERISTICS - Depth 65.83 ft. Upper casing diameter 2 in; top of first opening 61 ft, bottom of last opening 65.8 ft. The hole for well PI98-08 was drilled with an 8.25-inch-diameter, hydraulic rotary drill rig, on 09 September 1998 to a depth of 69.5 feet. The well is constructed of a 4.8-feet-long, 2-inch-diameter, schedule-40 stainless steel, 0.010-inch slotted, flush-threaded screen attached to 61 feet of 2-inch-diameter, schedule-40 black steel casing. The casing stickup was 2.57 feet above land surface on 18 May 2011. The open interval of the well is 61 - 65.8 feet below land surface and the total well depth is 65.83 feet.
DATUM - Land-surface datum is 731.52 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Measuring point: MP is top of notch on the top of the 2-inch steel well casing, not protection post, 1.82 ft above land-surface datum, Mar. 14, 2015 to present.
PERIOD OF RECORD -

Periodic water levels were recorded from 09 September 1998 to 07 July 1999. Water levels were recorded hourly during 26 September 2011 at 13:00 CDT to 17 Oct. 2017 at 15:00 CDT, except during the following periods:

01 Oct. 2014 at 14:00 CDT - 31 May 2015 at 10:00 CDT: due to a failed transducer and/or corrupted data file during data downloading attempt. Daily-average data during this period could not be accurately estimated.

06 Oct. 2016 at 10:00-19:00 CDT: transducer did not record data for unknown reason.

GAGE -

Water level, water temperature, and battery voltage ere measured with an OTT Orpheus Mini 0-4m pressure transducer (SN: 612788). These data are recorded hourly by the same OTT Orpheus Mini pressure transducer, which has a data logger built into it. The data logger is housed inside of the 2.04-inch steel casing, which has an aluminum locking well cap on top of that. The gage is powered by 3 AA lithium batteries that are inside of the communications rod. Data is downloaded manually. There is also a cell phone modem telemetry cap on top of the protection post. However, this telemetry cap has been problematic, and essentially does not work. The modem was powered by an 8 Ahr "cube" battery housed in a shelter and buried beside the well.

The original OTT Orpheus Mini 0-4m pressure transducer was removed from the well on 17 Oct. 2017 at 15:10 CDT. No longer recording continuous WL and WT data in this well. Site has been discontinued from active monitoring network for the Prairie Island Indian Community.

COOPERATION - Well PI98-08 is operated by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Prairie Island Indian Community. The monitoring well is part of a network of monitoring wells; used to collect water quality and water quantity data for the Prairie Island Indian Community.

PERIOD OF RECORD -

Water temperature were recorded hourly during 26 September 2011 at 13:00 CDT to 17 Oct. 2017 at 15:00 CDT, except during the following periods:

Water temperature data are missing during 01 Oct. 2014 at 14:00 CDT to 31 May 2015 at 10:00 CDT due to a failed transducer and/or corrupted data file during data downloading attempt. Daily-average data during this period could not be accurately estimated.

INSTRUMENTATION - Water temperature is currently measured with an OTT Orpheus Mini submersible pressure transducer thermistor accurate to ±0.1°C from 31 May 2015 to the present. Temperature differences are accurate to 0.1°C. Water temperature was measured with an OTT Orpheus Mini submersible pressure transducer accurate to ±0.3°C during 26 Sept. 2011 to 01 Oct. 2014. Temperature differences were accurate to 0.1°C.
