Monitoring location Brandywine Creek at Wilmington, DE - USGS-01481500

LOCATION.--On left bank at upstream side of Rising Sun Bridge, in Wilmington, and 4.2 mi upstream from mouth. In October 2006, the gage was relocated to the left bank at the upstream side of Rising Sun Road. Prior to October 2006 gage was located on right bank about 300 ft downstream of an old mill dam approximately 1500 ft downstream of Rising Sun Road at present gage datum. In May 2023, a temporary gage was installed approximately 20 ft. upstream of the 141 Bridge and ran concurrently to the downstream rising sun bridge location. This was due to the fact that the mill dam downstream of the rising sun gage was scheduled for removal, and water levels were expected to drop below the measurable levels. After removal, the rising sun gage will become the primary gage again. PERIOD OF RECORD.-- October 1946 to current year. Prior to December 1946, monthly discharge only, published in WSP 1302. GAGE.-- Water-stage recorder, crest stage gage, and concrete control. Datum of gage is 67.02 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988.REMARKS.--Some diurnal fluctuation at low flow caused by mills upstream from station. Flow regulated since November 1973 by Marsh Creek Reservoir (see station 01480684, Marsh Creek Lake near Downington, PA), capacity 7,230,000,000 gal, about 27 mi upstream. For unregulated statistics of monthly mean data and summary statistics for water years 1947 to 1973, reference WDR MD-DE-DC-05-1. No diversion just upstream from station by plant of E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Co. since June 13, 1960.
