LOCATION.--Lat 40°59'08", long 74°16'46" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Pompton Lakes Borough, Passaic County, NJ, Hydrologic Unit 02030103, at downstream right side of bridge on Dawes Highway, 0.5 mi south of Pompton, 0.6 mi downstream of Pompton Lake, and 1.3 mi northeast of Pompton Plains. DRAINAGE AREA.--160 mi2. PERIOD OF RECORD.--Miscellaneous discharge measurements, water years 1998, 2001-02, 2005. Annual maximum, August 2008 to current. REVISED RECORDS.--WDR-US-2010: 2009(M). GAGE.--Water-stage recorder with telemetry. Datum of gage is 175.3 ft above NGVD of 1929 (from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers benchmark). REMARKS.--Stage at site affected by operation of flood gates at Pompton Lake Dam, 0.6 mi upstream. Several measurements of water temperature were made during the year. EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum gage height, 13.97 ft, Aug 28, 2011. EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--The flood of April 5-6, 1984 reached a gage height of 12.7 ft, from high-water mark 20 ft downstream of Dawes Highway Bridge. The flood of October 16, 1955 reached a gage height of 10.2 ft, from high-water marks downstream of Dawes Highway Bridge.
