SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
LOCATION.--Lat 39°47'28", long 74°10'55"
referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Ocean Township, Ocean
County, NJ, Hydrologic Unit 02040301, on the public fishing pier at the
end of Bryant Road on west side of Barnegat Bay, 0.7 mi east of
Waretown, and 3.2 mi south of Forked River.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--Continuous-record tide gage Aug 1993 to Mar
2018. Gage was relocated 1.5 mi south-southwest and published as USGS
station 01409124 Barnegat Bay near Waretown, NJ.
REVISIONS HISTORY.--WDR-US-2012: 2011(M)
GAGE.--Tide elevation recorder. Datum of gage is 0.00 ft NAVD of
1988. To determine approximate elevations to NGVD of 1929, add 1.23 ft.
From Aug 1993 to October 2000, gage was located at pier approximately
100 ft south of current site and datum was 0.00 ft NGVD of 1929. Online
peaks have been adjusted to current datum.
REMARKS.--Storm tide sensor used to provide supplemental data
since February 2013. Prior to October 30, 2012 gage could not measure
tide levels below -1.76 ft. Tide levels below -1.76 have been
estimated. Prior to Nov 1, 2005, gage could not measure a tide level
below -0.82 ft. Periods of missing record are noted by dashed (---)
lines.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum elevation, 5.52 ft, Oct
29, 2012; minimum elevation, estimated, -2.1 ft, Feb 26, 2012, although
a lower tide likely occurred during period of missing record on Feb 16,
2007.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--Peak on Dec 11, 1992 reached
an elevation of 6.2 ft (adjusted to NAVD of 1988), from high-water mark
at Waretown Fishing Station. Other significant peak elevation, 3.3 ft
(adjusted to NAVD of 1988), Mar 7, 1962, from high-water mark at State
Marina in Forked River 2.6 mi north. Based on residents' reports,
the Nov 25, 1950 flood was a foot higher than the 1962 flood at
Southwind Marina in Forked River.
