SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
LOCATION.--Lat 38°56'54", long 74°53'20"
referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Cape May City, Cape May
County, NJ, Hydrologic Unit 02040302, on Pier 4 at U.S. Coast Guard
Station in Cape May, 0.7 mi east of east entrance to Cape May Canal,
and 1.0 mi west of Cape May Inlet.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--Annual maximum tide, water years 1965-85,
1992. Unpublished fragmentary gage-height record, September 1997 to May
2000. Continuous-record tide gage, June 2000 to current year.
GAGE.--Tide elevation, precipitation, air temperature, relative
humidity, air pressure, and wind speed and direction recorder with
telemetry and tidal crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is at 0.00 ft NAVD
of 1988. To determine approximate elevations to NGVD of 1929, add 1.31
ft. From water year 1965-85 and 1992, datum of crest-stage gage at 0.00
ft NGVD of 1929. Data published to NGVD of 1929 can be adjusted to NAVD
of 1988 by subtracting 1.31 ft. Online annual tidal peaks have been
adjusted to present datum.
REMARKS.--Periods of missing data are noted by dashed (---)
lines.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum elevation, 5.90 ft Oct
29, 2012; minimum elevation, estimated at -5.6 ft, Mar 9, 2005.
