SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

LOCATION.--Lat 40°37'19", long 74°26'10" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, North Plainfield Boro, Somerset County, NJ, Hydrologic Unit 02030105, on upstream right wingwall of bridge on Green Brook Road, in North Plainfield, 100 ft downstream of Crab Brook, and 1.4 mi upstream of mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA.--6.88 mi2.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--Annual maximum, water years 1975-83, 1991 to current year.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder with telemetry and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 71.69 ft above NGVD of 1929.
REMARKS.--Peak gage heights prior to 1991 were recorded at the downstream side of the bridge. Annual peak data can be obtained by selecting Peak streamflow from the 'Available data for this site' drop-down menu above or by using this link.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 3,140 ft3/s, Aug 28, 2011, gage height, 8.36 ft, from rating extended above 400 ft3/s from rating curve extension based on logarithmic extrapolation; gage height of 8.36 ft also occurred on Sep 16, 1999, discharge, not determined.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--The flood of Aug 2, 1973 reached a gage height of 10.65 ft, discharge, not determined.
