  • Due to a lapse in appropriations, the majority of USGS websites may not be up to date and may not reflect current conditions. Websites displaying real-time data, such as Earthquake and Water and information needed for public health and safety will be updated with limited support. Additionally, USGS will not be able to respond to inquiries until appropriations are enacted. For more information, please see www.doi.gov/shutdown.

LOCATION.--Lat 41°04'35", long 74°41'43" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Lafayette Township, Sussex County, NJ, Hydrologic Unit 02040105, on right downstream wingwall of bridge on Garrison Road, 0.8 mi upstream from mouth, 1.6 mi south of Lafayette, and 3.4 mi northeast of Newton.
DRAINAGE AREA.--13.0 mi2.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--Continuous-record discharge station, August 1992 to current year.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder with telemetry and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 555.40 ft above NGVD of 1929 (levels from American Geodetic Survey Company benchmark).
REMARKS.--Records good, except for estimated discharges, which are fair. Possible regulation from ponds and golf courses upstream. Beaver dam construction may occasionally affect flow. A significant portion of the base flow was the result of continuous pumpage from a limestone quarry into a tributary approximately 1.5 mi upstream from gage, until April 2004 when it largely ceased with only occasional short periods of pumping.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 589 ft³/s, Aug 28, 2011, gage height, 6.63 ft; minimum discharge, 0.16 ft³/s, Sep 12, 2016, possible result of regulation.
