USGS 13123500 BIG LOST RIVER E CHL AB MACKAY RES NR MACKAY ID

LOCATION.--Lat 43° 58'20", long 113° 43'53"(Rev.)(NAD83), in NW1/4 sec.4, T.7 N., R.23 E., Custer County, Hydrologic Unit 17040218, Mackay Reservoir quad., above maximum flow line of reservoir, 3 mi upstream from Mackay Dam, and 7.5 mi northwest of Mackay.

PERIOD OF RECORD.--May 1919 to November 1959 (discontinued).

REVISED RECORDS.--WSP 1287: 1919-21.

GAGE.--Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 6,061.80 ft above NGVD of 1929, unadjusted. Prior to Sept. 22, 1934, at site 550 ft upstream at different datum (datum raised 1 ft Apr. 10, 1920). Staff gage on Mackay Reservoir is used as an auxiliary gage during periods of backwater from reservoir.

REMARKS.--Diversions for irrigation above station. Zollinger ditch sometimes carries water on left bank past station. For sum of surface inflow to Mackay Reservoir, see station 13125500.

COOPERATION.--At times, gage height record and discharge measurements furnished by water commissioner for Big Lost River.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 1,360 ft3/s June 7, 8, 1952; maximum gage height, 5.97 ft, July 2, 1957, backwater from Mackay Reservoir; no flow for long periods in many years.
