LOCATION.--Lat 45° 49'02", long 116° 45'12" (NAD27), in NE1/4 NE1/4 sec.24, T.4 N., R.48 E. (Williamette meridian, unsurveyed), Wallowa County, Oregon, Wallowa National Forest, Deadhorse Ridge (Or,ID) quad., Hydrologic Unit 17060101, on left bank at China Gulch, 0.5 mi upstream from Imnaha River, 0.9 mi downstream from Divide Creek, 13 mi east of Joseph, OR, 22 mi west of White Bird, and at mile 192.3.
DRAINAGE AREA.--73,800 mi2, approximately.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--April 1955 to February 1971 (destroyed by flood of February 1971) (discontinued).
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 940.54 ft above mean sea level.
REMARKS.--Flow regulated by many reservoirs above station, the most effective of which is Brownlee Reservoir (sta 13289700) 92.7 mi upstream. Diurnal fluctuation caused by Hells Canyon powerplant 54.7 mi upstream. Diversions above station for irrigation of about 3,820,000 acres, of which about 742,000 acres are by withdrawals from ground water (1966 determination). Affected by backwater from Imnaha River about May 5 to July 2, 1955.
