SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD.--Stage-only records from May 1933 to current
year. No winter records, water years 1933-1952; records fragmentary,
November 1952 to June 1959.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,222.24 ft above
National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929, and 4.70 ft below crest of
spillway of dam at outlet. Prior to July 14, 1936, and November 8,
1951, to November 23, 1958, non-recording gage in wooden well at
Clear Lake Fish Hatchery at same datum; July 14, 1936, to April 20,
1944, non-recording gage at Clear Lake State Park at same datum;
April 21, 1944, to November 7, 1951, non-recording gage located 0.8
mi west of Clear Lake Fish Hatchery at same datum; November 24, 1958,
to June 24, 1959, non-recording gage at bridge 2.0 mi west of Clear
Lake Fish Hatchery at same datum.
REMARKS.--Lake is formed by concrete dam on Clear Creek with 50-ft
ungated overflow spillway, elevation 1,226.94 ft. Dam constructed in
1903. A previous outlet works had been constructed in 1887. Lake is
used for conservation and recreation. Area of lake is approximately
3,600 acres.
