Due to a lapse in Federal funding, the U.S. Geological Survey must suspend those parts of its data collection and distribution processes requiring human intervention. However, automated reporting and serving of telemetered data will continue.
Users may note some degradation in the quality and completeness of real-time streamflow, groundwater and water-quality data from some reporting stations due to the suspension of field calibrations and adjustments, especially as high flows occur, aquatic vegetation becomes dominant, or ice forms in high altitude streams. The USGS will continue to monitor some performance aspects of its network using a skeleton workforce.
LOCATION.--Lat 39°42'38.3", long 75°36'31.4", New Castle County, DE, Hydrologic Unit 02040205, on downstream side of bridge on James Street, at Newport and 7.5 mi upstream from the confluence with Delaware River. DRAINAGE AREA.--Not determined. PERIOD OF RECORD.--November 1993 to current year. GAGE.--Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 0.00 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (NAVD88). Prior to October 1, 2015, at datum 1.05 ft higher. REMARKS.--This is a tidal station. Discharges are not determined at this location. U.S. Geological Survey satellite data-collection platform at station. EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum elevation, 8.41 ft, datum then in use, October 30, 2012; minimum elevation, -5.55 ft, datum then in use, March 6, 2007. COOPERATION.--Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the Delaware Geological Survey.

7/28/2016 Notice to users - Water level data, beginning on 10/1/2015, at this site has been re-computed to reference the water level to NAVD88 datum. In order to convert historic water level data, stored in NGVD29 datum to the current NAVD88 datum, users must apply known -1.05 ft. datum shift, as calculated for this location using VERTCON.
