SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

LOCATION.--Lat 39°39'50.2", long 74°31'24.4" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Washington Township, Burlington County, NJ, Hydrologic Unit 02040301, on upstream right bank of main spillway at Harrisville Pond, 100 ft upstream from bridge on County Route 679 in Harrisville, and 0.3 mi upstream from confluence with West Branch Wading River.
DRAINAGE AREA.--72.5 mi2.
PERIOD OF RECORD.--Continuous-record discharge station, October 1930 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1302. Prior to October 1955, published as "East Branch Wading River at Harrisville".
REVISED RECORDS.--WDR NJ-83-1: Drainage area. WDR US-2012: 2011(M).
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder with telemetry, crest-stage gage, and concrete dam. Datum of gage is 4.62 ft above NGVD of 1929. Prior to Oct 1, 2017, water-stage recorder and concrete weir at site 200 ft downstream of main spillway dam at same datum.
REMARKS.--Records good, except for estimated discharges, which are fair. Figures given herein represent flow over main spillway and through bypass channel located 700 ft upstream of main spillway. Flow regulated by Harrisville Pond (capacity about 30,000,000 gal) and by ponds and cranberry bogs 5 to 10 mi upstream. Flow probably reduced by ground-water outflow to nearby surface drainage basins, such as Oyster Creek.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 2,260 ft3/s, Sep 5, 2012, gage height, 9.00 ft, from high-water mark in gage house; maximum gage height, 9.54 ft, Aug 20, 1939, from high-water mark in gage house; minimum discharge, 0.00 ft3/s, Oct 26, 1932, while upstream pond was filling.

WATER-QUALITY RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD.--Water years 1925, 1959-71, 1974, 1976-96, 2004, 2007-08.

NOTICE: On October 1, 2017, the water stage recorder was moved 200 ft upstream to the main spillway at Harrisville Pond. The relationship between stage (gage-height) and discharge has been adjusted to maintain a continuous record of discharge although gage-heights reported after September 30, 2017, will be noticeably higher for the same flow rate due to the relocation of the recording equipment.

This station managed by the New Jersey Water Science Center.
