LOCATION.--Lat 42°44'09.8", long 77°50'29.1" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Livingston County, NY, Hydrologic Unit 04130002, on right bank 100 ft upstream from bridge on State Highway 408 at Shakers Crossing, 1.5 mi northeast of Mount Morris and 1.4 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA.--335 mi².
PERIOD OF RECORD.--July 1915 to September 1922 (gage heights only), November 1958 to September 1970, October 1974 to current year.
REVISIONS HISTORY.--WDR NY-82-3: Drainage area.
GAGE.--Water-stage recorder and concrete control. Crest-stage gage since June 2017. Acoustic velocity meter since May 2018. Datum of gage is 545.52 ft above NGVD of 1929 and 544.97 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to November 1958, at site on left bank at downstream side of bridge at datum 540.00 ft (New York State Conservation Commission datum). November 1958 to September 1970, at site on left bank at upstream side of bridge, and October 1974 to June 1981, at site on left bank 30 ft upstream from bridge, at present datum. April 1968 to September 1970, and October 1974 to November 2018, auxiliary water-stage recorder 0.6 mi downstream from base gage.
REMARKS.--Water Years 2014-15: Records good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are fair.
Water Year 2016: Records good except those affected by backwater from the Genesee River, Oct. 1-4, Oct. 29 to Nov. 2, Nov. 11-14, Dec. 3-5, Dec. 23 to Jan. 4, Feb. 1-9, Feb. 26 to Mar. 8, Mar. 11-14, Apr. 7-10, 12-17, May 2-6, and Sept. 19, which are fair, and estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water Year 2017: Records good except those affected by backwater from the Genesee River, Oct. 21 to Nov. 1, Dec. 1-2, 18-23, Dec. 27 to Jan. 30, Feb. 8 to Mar. 1, Mar. 8-11, 22-23, Mar. 25 to May 15, May 25-28, June 15-16, and July 13-14, 17-18, which are fair, and estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water Year 2018: Records good except those affected by backwater from the Genesee River, Oct. 29 to Nov. 24, Feb. 15 to Mar. 7, Mar. 28 to Apr. 12, Apr. 16-29, May 13-18, July 22-31, Aug. 22-25, and Sept. 10-14, 26-30, which are fair, and estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Water Years 2019-23: Records good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum discharge, 5,510 ft³/s, Jan. 19, 1996, gage height 13.01 ft; maximum gage height, 13.86 ft, Jan. 30, 1959 (backwater from Genesee River); minimum discharge, 4.3 ft³/s, Aug. 19, 1970, gage height, 2.26 ft, result of temporary regulation.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--Flood of June 23, 1972, reached an estimated discharge of 11,200 ft³/s from U.S. Army Corps of Engineers publication (Tropical Storm Agnes, June 1972).
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD1.--SUSPENDED-SEDIMENT DISCHARGE: March 1975 to September 1977.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD1.--SUSPENDED-SEDIMENT CONCENTRATION: Maximum daily mean, 2,940 mg/L, May 6, 1975; minimum daily mean, 2 mg/L, Jan. 28, 1977. SUSPENDED-SEDIMENT DISCHARGE: Maximum daily, 35,900 tons, Mar. 4, 1976; minimum daily, 0.39 ton, Jan. 28, 1977.
