LOCATION - Lat 44°36'29", long 67°56'07" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Washington County, ME, Hydrologic Unit 01050002, on left bank 800 ft upstream from railroad bridge at Cherryfield, and 0.7 mi downstream from West Branch of Narraguagus River.
DRAINAGE AREA - 227 mi².

Revisions: The peak for Water Year 2018 occurred on Jan. 13, 2018 during a period estimated for backwater from ice. This peak was revised on Dec. 14, 2018 as additional estimated unit value discharges were added on Jan. 13, 2018 to better define the timing of the peak. No revisions were needed to the peak flow file, as the annual peak had not yet been entered.
PERIOD OF RECORD - DISCHARGE: February 1948 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 44.21 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Prior to July 1, 1948, nonrecording gage at same site and datum.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 10,400 ft³/s, May 28, 1961, gage height, 17.40 ft; minimum discharge, 3.0 ft³/s, Sept. 2, 4-5, 1978, gage height, 6.41 ft, caused by construction of ice retention dam upstream.
PERIOD OF RECORD - CHEMICAL ANALYSIS: Water years 1954, 1978 to 1986.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: January 1978 to September 1981.
WATER TEMPERATURE: January 1978 to September 1981, June to September 2004, June 2005 to September 2006, and October 2010 to September 2015 (discontinued).
INSTRUMENTATION - In-situ thermistor located on left bank 20 feet streamward of gage house and about 1.0 foot above river bed.
