LOCATION - Lat 44°23'26", long 70°58'47" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Oxford County, ME, Hydrologic Unit 01040002, on right bank 200 ft upstream from U.S. Route 2 highway bridge, 2,000 ft upstream from mouth, and 0.4 mi west of Gilead.
DRAINAGE AREA - 69.6 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR ME-81-1: Drainage area. WDR ME-98-1: 1960(M), 1967-68(M), 1970(M), 1973-74(M), 1976-77(M), 1979(M), 1984(M), 1986-87(M), 1991(M), 1996-97(P).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - DISCHARGE: July 1964 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 683.10 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Prior to Oct. 12, 1977, at site 180 ft downstream on left bank at same datum.
REMARKS -
  • Water Year 2019: Records good, except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor.
  • Water Year 2018: Records good, except for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Maximum discharge from rating curve extended above 11,500 ft³/s on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow.
  • Water Year 2017: Records good, except for period of no gage-height record, July 18-26, which is fair, and period of ice effect, Dec. 4 to Apr. 7, which is poor.
  • Water Year 2016: Records good, except periods of ice effect, Nov. 18-19, Nov. 23 to Dec. 3, Dec. 5-15, Dec. 28 to Jan. 10, Jan. 12 to Mar. 10, Mar. 19-25, and Apr. 3-7, which are poor.
  • Water Year 2015: Records good, except periods of ice effect, Nov. 20-23, Nov. 28 to Dec. 11, Dec. 20-23, and Dec. 30 to Apr. 10, which are poor.

  • EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 37,800 ft³/s, Aug. 28, 2011, gage height, 17.42 ft, from rating curve extended above 9,800 ft³/s on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow; minimum discharge, 6.0 ft³/s, Sept. 10-11, 2002.
