LOCATION - Lat 41°38'28", long 71°26'42" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Washington County, RI, Hydrologic Unit 01090004, on right bank, 45 ft upstream from Old Forge Dam in North Kingstown, 1.5 mi south of East Greenwich, and 2.5 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 22.9 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1621: 1957-58; 1995.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge: August 1940 to current year. Prior to October 1977, published as "Potowomut River." Water-quality records: Water years 1977-81.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemeter. Datum of gage is 5.42 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.
COOPERATION - Rhode Island Water Resources Board.
REMARKS - Records are good. Flow affected by diversions for municipal supply of East Greenwich, North Kingstown, Warwick, and Quonset Point (formerly U.S. Naval establishment).

Note: The maximum peak flow of 2,420 cfs on Mar 30, 2010 was from rating curve extended above 440 cfs. The maximum peak stage from Mar 30, 2010 was 5.61 ft.
The maximum peak stage of 6.78 ft on Aug 31, 1954 was backwater from hurricane tidal surge.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage since at least 1915, about 8.5 ft, Sept. 21, 1938 (backwater from hurricane storm surge).
