LOCATION - Lat 44°44'59", long 71°37'54" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Coos County, NH, Hydrologic Unit 01080101, on left bank, at North Stratford, 400 ft. downstream from Nulhegan River, 0.3 miles downstream of Vermont State Highway 105 bridge, 12.0 miles southwest of Colebrook, and at mile 344.5.
DRAINAGE AREA - 799 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 781: 1934(M). WSP 891: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - August 1930 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 880.17 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.
COOPERATION - USGS Federal Priority Streamgage Program
REMARKS - WATER YEARS 2014-18: Records good except those for estimated discharges, which are poor. Flow regulated by power plants and by First Connecticut and Second Connecticut Lakes and Lake Francis 36 mi upstream.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 32,300 ft³/s, March 31, 1998, gage height 15.63 ft; maximum gage height, 20.60 ft (ice jam), March 6, 1979, from floodmarks in well.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - June 1999 to September 30, 2005 and October 1, 2007 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water-temperature recorder since June 16, 1999 provides continuous recordings.
