LOCATION - Lat 42°34'48.8", long 72°34'28.2" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Franklin County, MA, Hydrologic Unit 01080201, on left bank 75 ft downstream from railroad bridge at Montague City, 1,000 ft downstream from Deerfield River, at river mile 119.
DRAINAGE AREA - 7,860 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 471: 1904-17. WSP 741: 1930-32. WSP 781: 1928(M). WSP 1051: 1905, 1909-10, 1912-14, 1920, 1922-23, 1925-26, 1928, drainage area at Sunderland. WSP 1301: 1905(M), 1914-19(M), 1930-31(M). WDR MA-RI-84-1: Drainage area. WDR-US-2015: 2015. Daily mean discharges from Jan. 11, 2015 to Mar. 18, 2015, monthly mean discharges for January, February, and March 2015, and the annual mean discharge for the 2015 water year were revised on July 20, 2016 and supersede those values originally published in the 2015 water year. Revisions are based on estimated daily discharges to correct for ice effects.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge: March 1904 to current year. Prior to October 1929, published as "at Sunderland." Records published for both sites October 1929 to September 1932. Water-quality records: water years 1994-95.
GAGE - Data Collection Platform with satellite telemeter. Datum of gage is 99.32 ft above NAVD 1988. Datum previously reported as 99.87 ft above NGVD 1929 at present site since Oct. 1, 1929. Prior to Oct. 1, 1917, non-recording gage; Oct. 1, 1917, to Oct. 8, 1921, water-stage recorder used for low stages, non-recording gage otherwise; and Oct. 9, 1921, to Sept. 30, 1932, water-stage recorder; all at site 9 mi downstream at datum 1.00 ft lower.
COOPERATION - Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Division of Water Supply Protection, Office of Watershed Management.
REMARKS - Flow regulated by powerplants and by First Connecticut and Second Connecticut Lakes, Lake Francis, Moore and Comerford Reservoirs, and other reservoirs, combined usable capacity, about 43,400,000,000 ft³.
