LOCATION - Lat 42°14'14", long 72°53'46" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Hampshire County, MA, Hydrologic Unit 01080206, on left bank at Huntington, 0.4 mi downstream from Roaring Brook, and 1.5 mi upstream from mouth.
DRAINAGE AREA - 94 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR MA-RI-84-1: drainage area; WDR-US-2006, daily, monthly, annual, and peak discharge records. WDR MA-RI, water years 1990, 2005-2007, annual peak discharges.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge: September 1935 to current year. Water-quality records: Water years 1957, 1967-74.
GAGE - Data Collection Platform with satellite telemeter. Datum of gage is 382.94 ft above NAVD 1988. Datum previously reported as 383.60 ft above NGVD 1929. Prior to Oct. 1, 1989, at datum 5.00 ft higher.
COOPERATION - Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Office of Water Resources.
REMARKS - Records fair except those for discharges greater than 5,000 ft³/s and those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Prior to 1950, some diurnal fluctuation at low flow caused by small mill upstream.

The historical maximum peak flow of 32,400 cfs on Aug. 28, 2011 is based on rating curve extended above 9,500 ft³/s on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow. The historical peak stage of 16.78 ft is from high-water mark.
