LOCATION - Lat 42°36'40", long 73°07'28" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Berkshire County, MA, Hydrologic Unit 02020003, on left bank at Adams, 500 ft downstream from Dry Brook, and 0.4 mi upstream from Pecks Brook.
DRAINAGE AREA - 46.7 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR MA-NH-RI-VT-73-1: 1971-72. WDR MA-RI-84-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge: October 1931 to current year. Water-quality records: Water years 1967-69.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with satellite telemeter and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 828.01 ft above NGVD of 1929 and 827.76 ft above NAVD of 1988. Prior to Oct. 1, 1964, datum was 9.00 ft higher and Oct. 1, 1964, to May 29, 1974, 8.00 ft higher, at site 500 ft upstream.
COOPERATION - Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation, Office of Water Resources.
REMARKS -

Diversion upstream for municipal water supply of Adams. Some diurnal fluctuation by mill upstream prior to 1961. Flow regulated by Cheshire Reservoir 5.1 mi upstream.

Water Years 2017-22: Records good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor.

  • WY2016: Records good, including period of ice effect, Feb. 12-15.
  • WY2015: Records good, except for period of no gage-height record, July 16-17, which is fair, periods ice effect, Dec. 6, Dec. 30 to Jan. 5, Jan. 8-17, and Jan. 23 to Mar. 9, and period of doubtful stage-discharge relation, June 16-18, which are poor.
  • WY2014: Records good except those for discharges greater than 500 cfs, and those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. The annual peak discharge of 1,630 cfs on June 25, 2014 was determined from peak-stage indicator which recorded a peak gage height of 8.66 ft.

  • The historical peak discharge of 5,080 cfs on Sept. 21, 1938 was determined from rating curve extended above 1,100 cfs on basis of computation of peak flow over dam, at gage height 9.25 ft (datum then in use). The peak gage height of 9.25 ft was determined from peak-stage indicator.
