LOCATION - Lat 40°54'57", long 74°10'54" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Paterson City, Passaic County, NJ, Hydrologic Unit 02030103, on right bank 80 ft upstream of Society for Establishing Useful Manufactures (S.U.M.) dam, 300 ft upstream from Passaic Falls (Great Falls) in Paterson, and 1.5 mi downstream of Peckman River.
DRAINAGE AREA - 779 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Miscellaneous measurements, water years 1987-89, 1991-95, 1997-99, 2001-02, and 2005 to current year. Annual maximum, water years 2009 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with telemetry. Datum of gage is 1.25 below NAVD of 1988.
REMARKS - Miscellaneous discharge measurements include flow over dam and falls only; measurements do not include flow through the hydroelectric power plant. The Society for Establishing Useful Manufactures (SUM) dam has flashboards installed on the crest that routinely break free during high-flow events affecting peak gage-heights. Annual peak data can be obtained by selecting Peak streamflow from the 'Available data for this site' drop-down menu above or by using this link.
