LOCATION - Lat 40°43'39", long 74°43'49" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Washington Township, Morris County, NJ, Hydrologic Unit 02030105, on right bank 1.1 mi upstream from bridge on County Highway 512 (Black River Road), 1.2 mi northwest of Pottersville, and 5.5 mi upstream from Cold Brook.
DRAINAGE AREA - 32.8 mi².

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Continuous-record discharge station December 1921 to current year. Monthly discharges October and November 1921 published in WSP 1302. Prior to October 1952, published as "Black River near Pottersville".
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with telemetry. Concrete control since July 1, 1937. Datum of gage is 284.14 ft above NGVD of 1929 (levels from New Jersey Geological Survey benchmark). Prior to July 1, 1922, non-recording gage on downstream side of highway bridge at Pottersville, 1.1 mi downstream at different datum.
REMARKS - Records good, except for estimated discharges, which are fair. Flow occasionally regulated by ponds above station. Discharges above 2400 ft³/s from rating curve extension on basis of logarithmic extrapolation.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 3,590 ft³/s, from rating curved extended above 2400 ft³/s on basis of logarithmic extrapolation, Sep 8, 2011, gage height, 5.24 ft; maximum gage height, 5.94 ft, Jul 7, 1984; minimum discharge, 1.3 ft³/s, Oct 4, 1930.
