SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Continuous-record discharge station, October 1930 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1302. Prior to October 1955, published as "East Branch Wading River at Harrisville".
GAGE - Water-stage recorder with telemetry, crest-stage gage, and concrete dam. Datum of gage is 4.62 ft above NGVD of 1929. Prior to Oct 1, 2017, water-stage recorder and concrete weir at site 200 ft downstream of main spillway dam at same datum.
REMARKS - Records good, except for estimated discharges, which are fair. Figures given herein represent flow over main spillway and through bypass channel located 700 ft upstream of main spillway. Flow regulated by Harrisville Pond (capacity about 30,000,000 gal) and by ponds and cranberry bogs 5 to 10 mi upstream. Flow probably reduced by ground-water outflow to nearby surface drainage basins, such as Oyster Creek.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 2,260 ft³/s, Sep 5, 2012, gage height, 9.00 ft, from high-water mark in gage house; maximum gage height, 9.54 ft, Aug 20, 1939, from high-water mark in gage house; minimum discharge, 0.00 ft³/s, Oct 26, 1932, while upstream pond was filling.
