  • Water-Year Summary reports summarize a year of hydrologic data in a printer-friendly format.
  • For water years 2014 onward, choose a water year and parameter and an on-demand Water-Year Summary report will be generated.
  • For water years 2006 through 2013, choose a water year and an Annual Water Data Report will be provided.
  • For water years 2005 and earlier, Annual Water Data Reports may be available in digital format.
  • Not all sites have reports available for every water year.

USGS Water-Year Summary 2022
LOCATION - Lat 39°49'42", long 75°46'52" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Chester County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02040205, at Third Street bridge in Avondale Borough, 2,000 ft upstream from State Route 41.
DRAINAGE AREA - 11.3 mi².

Revisions: Discharge was revised for the period of August 28, 2020 to August 30, 2020 on March 31, 2021 due to additional analysis.

Prior to March 10, 2022, the datum of gage was reported as 270 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1929.

PERIOD OF RECORD - October 2007 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 264.65 ft. above North American Vertical Datum of 1988, from single-base GNSS static survey. Satellite telemetry at station.  Previous to March 10, 2022, the datum of gage was erroneously reported as 270 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.
COOPERATION - Funding for this station is provided by the Chester County Water Resources Authority, Chester County Emergency Services, and the U.S. Geological Survey.
REMARKS - Records rated fair, except those for discharges less then 5 ft³/s, those for discharges greater than 160 ft³/s, and those for estimated discharges, which are poor.
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1970 to current year.
REMARKS - Results of benthic surveys can be obtained by contacting the U.S. Geological Survey Pennsylvania Water Science Center, Downingtown Field Office.
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1970 to current year.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - Turbidity: July 2020 to current year.  Water Temperature and Specific Conductance: November 2019 to current year. pH: October 2007 to October 2014.
COOPERATION - Samples were collected with cooperation from the Chester County Water Resources Authority and the Chester County Department of Emergency Services. The station is maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey with funding provided by the U.S. Geological Survey Next Generation Water Observing System(NGWOS).
INSTRUMENTATION - Data sonde deployed insitu monitoring water temperature, specific conductance, and turbidity at a 15 minute interval and interfaced with with telemetry..

Samples were collected as part of the Chester County Biological Monitoring project. As of October 2013, results from discrete water quality samples collected at this site are available through the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System web interface on the "Water Quality for the Nation" webpage. Interruptions in the record were due to malfunctions of the equipment. Records for water year 2014 pH are fair.

The reporting precision of the turbidity probe in low turbidity water is +/-0.3 FNU. The lowest reportable value, 0 FNU, is subject to this error and does not necessarily indicate a condition of zero turbidity. Turbidity values greater than 1300 FNU are beyond the specification of the sensor and are considered unreliable. Interruptions in the record were due to malfunctions of the equipment.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum, 499 microsiemens/cm, Jan 19, 2020; minimum, 59 microsiemens/cm, Aug 7, 2020. pH: Maximum, 9.1 units, Apr 1,5 and 9, 2013; minimum, 6.2 units, Aug 28, 2011, Sep 7, 2011. WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 25.9°C, Aug 2, 2020; minimum, 0.3°C, Jan 21, 2020. TURBIDITY: Maximum 642 FNU, Aug 12, 2020; minimum, <0.3 FNU, many days.
