LOCATION - Lat 40°01'40", long 75°51'03" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Chester County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02040205, at Hibernia Dam on Birch Run, 0.6 mi upstream from gaging station on Birch Run (station 01480400), 0.9 mi upstream from mouth, and 1.4 mi northwest of Wagontown.
DRAINAGE AREA - 4.50 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - May 1997 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is sea level (levels by Chester County Water Resources Authority, Chester County Parks and Recreation Department). Satellite telemetry at station. Non-recording gage, May 1997 to Jan 2007.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey. Funding for this station is provided by the Chester County Water Resources Authority.
REMARKS - Reservoir formed by earthfill dam with principal spillway at elevation 587.5 ft, capacity 2,000 acre-ft. Dam crest at elevation 596.5 ft. Normal elevation 580 ft, capacity 1,226 acre feet. Reservoir is used for water supply, flood control, and recreation. Figures given herein represent total contents. Records for water year 2015 are good. Records for water year 2014 are good from Nov 7 to Sept 30. Records were deleted for the period Oct 1 to 23, and no data were collected Oct 23 to Nov 7, due to lake drawdown associated with dam repairs. Records for water year 2016 are good except for Aug 30 to Sept 30, which are fair. Records for water year 2017 are good except for Oct 1 to Jan 3, which are poor and Jan 4 to Mar 20, which are fair. Records for water year 2018 are good. Records for water year 2019 are good except for Dec 22 to Jan 16, Jan 31, and Feb 2, which are poor. Records for water year 2020 are good except for Jul 23 to Aug 25, which are fair. Records for water year 2021 are good except for Oct 25 to 26, which are poor. Records for water years 2022-2023 are good.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum recorded elevation, 585.54 ft, estimated contents from Chester County capacity curves, 1,725 acre-ft, May 1, 2014; minimum recorded elevation, 571.23 ft, contents, 605 acre-ft, Oct. 10, 2002.
