SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - March 1899 to current year. Prior to April 1905 monthly discharge only, published in WSP 1302.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder, crest-stage gage and water-quality monitor.  Datum of gage is 430.54 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988.  Prior to June 29, 1939, non-recording gage at or near Mill Street bridge at same datum. Since Oct. 1, 1971, water-stage recorder for Susquehanna River at Sunbury (station 01553990), used as an auxiliary gage.  Prior to October 3, 2023, the datum of gage was reported as 431.29 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929.  Satellite telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
REMARKS - Flow slightly regulated by 8 flood-control reservoirs which have a combined capacity of 368,800 acre-ft. Daily discharges determined from slope-adjusted computation using auxiliary gage (01553990) when auxiliary gage exceeds 12.00 ft, gage datum. Records are good except for periods of estimated discharge, which are poor.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Mar. 18, 1865, reached a stage of 28 ft, discharge not determined.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - 1946 to 1953, 1957 to 1995, 2002 to 2009, 2011 to present.
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: November 2010 to present. SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: November 2010 to present. DISSOLVED OXYGEN: March 2011 to October 2022. PH: March 2011 to October 2022.
COOPERATION - Station established by the US Geological Survey in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
INSTRUMENTATION - Water-quality monitor collecting data at 15-minute interval. The primary water quality Sonde and separate DCP are installed about 1.1 miles upstream from the surface water gage, in a pump house for the Danville Water Authority. The Sonde is located in a well on the lower floor of the pump house, upstream, streamward side. Satellite telemetry at the station.
REMARKS - Cross-sectional water quality data is available upon request. Water temperature and specific conductance data are collected year round. pH and dissolved oxygen data collection is suspended during the winter months. Historically, water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius. Subsequent to water year 2015, water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius are reported.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum, 505 microsiemens/cm on Sep 29, 2015; minimum, 50 microsiemens/cm, Sep 18, 2012. PH: Maximum, 9.9 standard units, Sep 17, 2012; minimum, 6.6 standard units, Aug 29, 2011. WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 35.6°C, Jul 6, 2012; minimum, -0.2°C, many days during winter periods. DISSOLVED OXYGEN: Maximum, 22.7 mg/L, Jul 14, 2012; minimum, 2.3 mg/L Aug 10, 28, 2012.
