LOCATION - Lat 40°19'24", long 77°10'09" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Perry County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02050305, on left bank on downstream side of bridge on State Highway 34 at Shermans Dale, and 1.2 mi upstream from Fishing Run.
DRAINAGE AREA - 207 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1302: 1930(M). WSP 1502: 1933, 1934(M), 1935-36. WDR PA-97-2: Drainage area. WDR-US-2009: 2008(P).
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1929 to current year. Prior to October 1962, published as "at Shermandale".
GAGE - Water-stage recorder, crest-stage gage and Pluvio precipitation gage. Datum of gage is 421.91 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988 (from benchmark).  Prior to Jan 29, 1930, non-recording gage at same site and datum.  Prior to July 19, 2024, datum of gage was reported as 422.63 ft. above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Satellite and landline telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey. Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Geological Survey.
REMARKS - Records for water year 2014 are good, except those for less than 40 ft³/s and the May 25-29 period, which are fair, and those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Records for water years 2015-2016 are good, except those for less than 25 ft³/s, which are fair, and those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Records for water year 2017 are good, except those for less than 25 ft³/s, which are fair, and estimated discharge, which is poor. Records for water year 2018 are fair except estimated discharge, which is poor. Records for water years 2019-2020 are good except estimated discharge, which is poor. Records for water years 2021-2022 are good except discharges greater than 2,000 cfs, which are fair and estimated discharge, which is poor. Records for water year 2023 are fair except estimated discharge, which is poor. 
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of Jul 22, 1927, reached a stage of 20.34 ft, from floodmark, discharge, about 44,000 ft³/s.
