LOCATION - Lat 40°15'08", long 77°01'16" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Cumberland County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02050305, on left bank 1,130 ft upstream from highway bridge on Township Route 596 (Sample Bridge Road), 0.4 mi downstream from Hogestown Run, and 1.0 mi northeast of Hogestown.
DRAINAGE AREA - 470 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1722: 1913, 1917.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1911 to September 1917, October 1929 to September 1958, July 1967 to current year. October 1917 to December 1919 (gage heights and discharge measurements only), in reports of Water Supply Commission of Pennsylvania. Published as "at Brysons Bridge" 1912-17.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 351.00 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Prior to Dec 1919, non-recording gage at site 2 mi downstream at different datum. Oct 1, 1929 to Aug 3, 1931, non-recording gage at site 1,000 ft downstream at present datum. Satellite and landline telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey. Funding for the operation of this station is provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and the U.S. Geological Survey.
REMARKS - Since June 1969 the Pennsylvania American Water Co. has diverted water upstream from station for municipal supply. Record of diversions were provided to the USGS by the Pennsylvania American Water Co. and filed with the Water Science Center through Water Year 2016. Records for water years 2014-2016 are good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Records for water years 2017-2019 and 2022 are good except estimated discharge, which is poor. Records for water years 2020-2021 and 2023 are fair except estimated discharge, which is poor.
