LOCATION - Lat 39°59'45.37", long 76°15'50.54" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Lancaster County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02050306, on right bank, 0.35 mi upstream of bridge on Long Rifle Road and 0.26 mi downstream from intersection of Beaver Valley Pike (Rt. 741) and Gypsy Hill Road. September 24, 2008 to March 24, 2021, site was located 0.1 mi downstream.

DRAINAGE AREA - 1.68 mi².

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD - October 2008 to current year.

GAGE -

Water stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Elevation of gage is 309 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988, from Lidar. September 24, 2008 to March 24, 2021, water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage at site 550 ft downstream on right bank at datum 4 ft lower. Datum of gage originally listed as "315 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929, from topographic map". Satellite telemetry at station.

COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and Franklin and Marshall College.

REMARKS - Record for water years 2014-2020 is poor. Record for water year 2021 is fair except for estimated discharge, which is poor. Record for water year 2022 is fair except for Jun through Oct and estimated discharge, which is poor. Record for water year 2023 is fair except for Oct through Jan and estimated discharge, which is poor.

Water Temperature - April 2013 to current year

INSTRUMENTATION - A YSI EXO2 multi-parameter probe installed at the site to continuously record water temperature, turbidity and specific conductance on a 15-minute interval. Beginning of Record to November 10, 2020, a YSI 600 OMS multi-parameter probe with 6136 sensor installed at the site to continuously record water temperature, turbidity and specific conductance on a 15-minute interval.

REMARKS - For April 2013 to September 2015, water temperature record is rated good. For 2016 water year, water temperature record is rated good, specific conductance record is rated fair, and turbidity record is rated poor. For 2017 water year, water temperature record is rated good, specific conductance record is rated fair except for values greater than 1000, which are rated poor, and turbidity record is rated poor. For 2018 water year, water temperature record is rated good, specific conductance record is rated fair except for values greater than 1000, which are rated poor, and turbidity record is rated poor. Beginning in water year 2019, water quality records are not rated as "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor". The reporting precision of the turbidity probe in low turbidity water is +/-0.3 FNU. The lowest reportable value, 0 FNU, is subject to this error and does not necessarily indicate a condition of zero turbidity. Turbidity values greater than 1000 FNU are beyond the specification of the sensor and are considered unreliable.

EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: maximum, 26.2 oC on Aug 8, 2018; minimum, -0.1 oC on Mar 14, 2017. SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: maximum, 3870 uS/cm on Dec 15, 2022 (road salt); minimum, 86 uS/cm on Sept 1, 2021. TURBIDITY: maximum: 1,190 FNU on Mar 31, 2017; minimum: <0.3 FNU on many days.
