LOCATION - Lat 39°49'40", long 76°20'01" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Lancaster County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 02050306, The water-quality probe is located at the Holtwood Reservoir along inner skimmer wall at Holtwood Dam located on Holtwood Road about 0.5 mi southwest of town of Holtwood.
DRAINAGE AREA - 26,740 mi².

COOPERATION - Funding for the operation of this station is provided by Exelon Corporation and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. The Holtwood Hydroelectric Dam is operated by Talen Energy.
INSTRUMENTATION - a YSI EXO multiparameter probe is used to internally log turbidity, specific conductance, and water temperature. The EXO is housed in a 3-in galvanized steel pipe.
REMARKS - Records for water year 2015 have water temperature rated poor and specific conductance and turbidity records rated good. Records for water year 2016 have water temperature rated poor through Feb 22 and specific conductance and turbidity, as well as water temperature after Feb 22 rated good. Records for water year 2017 have water temperature, specific conductance and turbidity rated fair.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: Maximum, 434 microsiemens/cm, Oct 15, 2017; minimum, 150 microsiemens/cm, Apr 15, 2015. WATER TEMPERATURE: Maximum, 31.0°C, Aug 14, 2016; minimum, freezing point on many days. Turbidity: Maximum, 230 FNU, Jan 26, 2018; minimum 1.3 FNU, Jul 10, 2016.
