LOCATION - Lat 39°26'05.0", long 77°48'05.0" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Jefferson County, WV, Hydrologic Unit 02070004, on right bank, 0.1 mi downstream from Rumsey Bridge at Shepherdstown, 3.3 mi upstream from Antietam Creek, and at mile 184.
DRAINAGE AREA - 5,953 mi². from automated delineation using 30-meter National Elevataion Dataset, digital elevation model data, dated December 2011.

  • EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of June 1889 reached a stage of 39.2 ft, from floodmarks, discharge, about 290,000 ft³/s from rating curve extended above 200,000 ft³/s, on the basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow. Flood of May 1924 reached a stage of 29.8 ft, from floodmarks, discharge, about 168,000 ft³/s.
