LOCATION - Lat 36°54'00", long 77°24'00" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Sussex County, VA, Hydrologic Unit 03010201, on left bank 15 ft downstream from bridge on U.S. Highway 301, 1.8 mi upstream from Island Swamp, 3.3 mi south of town of Stony Creek, and 4.4 mi upstream from Stony Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA - 577 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 802: 1935(M). WSP 972: 1931(M), 1932, 1934-35, 1939. WDR-VA-74-1: 1972. OFR 2006-1308: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1929 to current year. Monthly discharge only for some periods, published in WSP 1303.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 57.43 ± 0.1 ft. above NAVD 88. Prior to Oct. 11, 1934, nonrecording gage at present site and datum.
COOPERATION - Records were provided by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality - Water Division.
REMARKS - Diurnal fluctuation at low flow caused by Baskerville Mill, 33 mi upstream. Maximum discharge, 25,200 ft³/s, from rating curve extended above 13,000 ft³/s.
