LOCATION - Lat 36°16'49", long 76°59'58" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Hertford County, NC, Hydrologic Unit 03010203, on right bank 10 ft downstream of bridge on North Carolina Highway 11-42, 0.5 mi upstream from Seaboard Coast Line Railroad bridge, and 0.8 mi southwest of Ahoskie.
DRAINAGE AREA - 63.3 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR NC-81-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - January 1950 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 16.31 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Prior to January 4, 1963, at present site, datum of 21.46 ft. Nonrecording gage, January 20, 1950 to May 24, 1951, at present site, datum of 21.46 ft. Satellite telemetry at streamgage.
REMARKS - Entire basin above station channelized since July 1964. Prior to channelization, no flow occurred periodically. Gage-height records are generally good. Discharge records are generally fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Additional details on the accuracy of the records can be obtained by contacting the USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center at gs-w-nc_nwisweb_data_inquiries@usgs.gov.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of August 1940 reached a stage of 15.1 ft, present datum, from floodmark witnessed by local resident; discharge not determined.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge 8,570 ft³/s, September 17, 1999; Maximum Gage height 17.32 ft, September 17, 1999.  Minimum daily mean discharge, no flow, August 11, 1950.
