LOCATION - Lat 35°00'36", long 77°13'08" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Jones County, NC, Hydrologic Unit 03020204, at downstream side of bridge on U.S. Highway 17, 0.5 mi downstream from Goshen Branch, and 0.2 mi northeast of Pollocksville.
DRAINAGE AREA - 370 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - Discharge: July 1996 to June 2008 (discontinued.) Gage height: July 1996 to June 2009; April 2010 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1.1 ft below NAVD88 NAD83(2011). Satellite telemetry at streamgage.
Historical: Previous datum is 0 ft above NGVD29.
REMARKS - This site is strongly affected by both astronomical and wind tides. The astronomical tides occur at primary harmonic periods of 12.42 hours and 24.8 hours. Gage-height records are generally good. EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 18,600 ft³/s, September 19, 1999. Maximum gage height, 20.48 ft, September 18, 2018, from surveyed flood mark, as a result of Hurricane Florence.
