LOCATION - Lat 36°20'28", long 80°41'09" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Surry County, NC, Hydrologic Unit 03040101, on left bank 500 ft upstream from bridge on North Carolina Highway 268, 1 mi upstream from Cody Creek, and 2 mi northwest of Copeland.
DRAINAGE AREA - 128 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1303: 1933(M). WDR NC-80-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1931 to September 2010 (discontinued). PRECIPITATION: October 2002 to September 2010 (discontinued).
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 909.90, North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Prior to September 5, 1936, twice daily readings at same site, elevation of 913 ft. Satellite telemetry at streamgage.
REMARKS - Records good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Some irrigation diversions at times in the growing season. Maximum discharge for period of record, from rating curve extended above 7,500 ft³/s on basis of slope-area measurement of peak flow, gage height, 18.4 ft. Minimum discharge for period of record also occurred September 13, 14, 2002. Minimum discharge for current water year also occurred September 25.
CLIMATOLOGICAL RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 2002 to current year.
INSTRUMENTATION - Tipping-bucket raingage and electronic datalogger. Satellite telemetry at station.
REMARKS - Frozen precipitation collected in March is not reflected in daily or monthly totals.
