LOCATION - Lat 36°24'15.8", long 80°33'42.1" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Surry County, NC, Hydrologic Unit 03040101, on right bank 265 ft upstream from bridge on Secondary Road 2019 at Ararat, and 300 ft downstream of Flat Shoal Creek.
DRAINAGE AREA - 231 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY -

The mean gage-heights associated with discharge measurements #474-#476 were revised on 05/18/23, based on changes to the gage datum.

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD -
April 1964 to current year.
PRECIPITATION: October 2002 to current year, station number 362416080334345.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 880.62 ft above NAVD of 1988. Satellite telemetry at streamgage.
REMARKS - Gage-height records are generally good. EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of June 14, 1947, reached a stage of 21.4 ft, result of failure of dams upstream; discharge, 26,000 ft³/s, from information by local resident.
