02126000 ROCKY RIVER NEAR NORWOOD, NC
LOCATION - Lat 35°09'25.19", long 80°09'56.78" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Stanly County, NC, Hydrologic Unit 03040105, On bridge on Secondary Road 1935, 6 miles southwest of Norwood. Located 1/4 of the way across bridge from left bank on downstream side. 
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,380 mi².  
REVISIONS HISTORY -

WSP 852: 1937, daily discharges. WSP 1052: 1936, maximum discharge. WSP 1503: 1935, daily discharge); 1945, maximum and daily discharges. WDR NC-80-1: Drainage area.

Drainage area was revised on Feb. 5, 2021, based on a more accurate determination of the drainage area at the current gage location. 

SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1929 to current year.
GAGE - Datum of gage is 202.02 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Prior to March 7, 2020, located approximately 1.5 miles upstream of current location at a datum of 212.02 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1988.
REMARKS - Gage-height records are generally good. Discharge records are generally fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor.  Additional details on the accuracy of the records can be obtained by contacting the USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center at gs-w-nc_nwisweb_data_inquiries@usgs.gov.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in August 1908 reached a stage of 35 ft, from information by local residents; discharge, 67,600 ft³/s.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum instantaneous discharge, 105,000 cfs, Sep. 18, 1945. Maximum instantaneous gage height, 46.37 ft, from floodmark at previous gage datum, Sep. 18, 1945. Minimum daily mean discharge, 19 cfs, Sep. 28, 1931.
