LOCATION - Lat 35°23'14", long 79°49'53" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Montgomery County, NC, Hydrologic Unit 03040104, on left bank, 9 ft downstream from bridge on Secondary Road 1340, 50 ft upstream from Black Rock Branch, 0.2 mi upstream from Norfolk Southern Railway bridge, 0.3 mi downstream from West Fork Little River, and 3 mi west of Star.
DRAINAGE AREA - 106 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR NC-80-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - April 1954 to current year. Occasional low-flow measurements, water years 1949-54.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and crest-stage gage. Datum of gage is 408.15 ft above North American Vertical Datum of 1988. Satellite telemetry at streamgage.
REMARKS - Gage-height records are generally good. Discharge records are generally fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood in September 1945 reached a stage of about 20 ft, from information by local resident.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - No flow occurred August 12-15, 25-26, 2002.
