LOCATION - Lat 35°08'27", long 80°49'12" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Mecklenburg County, NC, Hydrologic Unit 03050103, on left bank downstream of culvert wingwall at Sharon View Road (Secondary Road 3673), 3.3 mi south of Queens College, and 6.9 mi upstream from mouth, near Charlotte. ADDRESS.— 5741 Sharon View Road, Charlotte, NC 28210
DRAINAGE AREA - 6.95 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WDR NC-80-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - April 1962 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder, crest-stage gage, and concrete control. Datum of gage is 592.31 ft above North American Vertical of 1988. Prior to October 13, 1970, at site 237 ft upstream at same datum. October 13, 1970 to December 30, 1971, at site 154 ft downstream at 590.91 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929. Radio telemetry at streamgage.
REMARKS - Gage-height records are generally good. Discharge records are generally fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Additional details on the accuracy of the records can be obtained by contacting the USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center at gs-w-nc_nwisweb_data_inquiries@usgs.gov.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of January 6, 1962, reached a stage of 7.5 ft, former site and datum, from floodmarks; discharge, 1,040 ft³/s.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge for period of record, 4,020 ft³/s, August 27, 2008, from rating curve extended above 2,650 ft³/s on basis of computation of peak flow through culvert. No flow occurred periodically from 1962 to 1973, November 26, 2012, several days September 2013.
