LOCATION - Lat 35°07'26", long 81°35'17" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Cherokee County, SC, Hydrologic Unit 03050105, at upstream side of bridge on SC Highway 18, 1.2 mi upstream of Buffalo Creek, 1.2 mi downstream of Gaston Shoals Reservoir, 3.2 mi west of Blacksburg, and at mile 275.2.
DRAINAGE AREA - 1,320 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY -

Drainage area was revised on June 23, 2020, based on a more accurate determination of the drainage area.

Gage height and discharge for the period March 17, 2022, to January 31, 2023, and the mean gage-heights associated with measurements #0149-#0153, were revised on May 8, 2023, based on changes to the gage datum.

 
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1997 to current year.
GAGE - Data collection platform and crest-stage gage. Elevation of gage is 545.66 ft above NAVD of 1988, from GNSS survey.
REMARKS - Gage-height records are generally good. Discharge records are generally fair except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Additional details on the accuracy of the records can be obtained by contacting the USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center at gs-w-nc_nwisweb_data_inquiries@usgs.gov.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum instantaneous discharge, 58,000 cfs, Feb. 7, 2020. Maximum instantaneous gage height, 24.18 ft, Feb. 7, 2020. Minimum instantaneous discharge, 19 cfs on September 9th, 2002, and a minimum gage height of 1.21 ft on March 28, 2001. Minimum daily mean discharge, 40.6 cfs, Aug. 12, 2002.
