02263850 BAY LAKE NEAR VINELAND, FL
LOCATION - Lat 28°24'48", long 81°33'28" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, in NW 1/4 sec.07, T.24 S., R.28 E., Orange County, FL, Hydrologic Unit 03090101, on right bank at upstream wingwall of control structure 105A in lateral 105, 200 ft south of natural lake shoreline, and 3.5 mi northwest of Vineland.
DRAINAGE AREA - 14.8 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - February 1967 to September 1969; October 1970 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder and data-collection platform. Datum of gage is at NGVD of 1929 (Walt Disney World bench mark). Prior to Feb. 7, 1969, on north shore of lake at datum 90.00 ft higher.
COOPERATION - This gage is monitored in cooperation with the Reedy Creek Improvement District.
REMARKS - Surface area 436 acres (0.68 mi²). Outflow from lake is through L-105 to Bonnet Creek since fall of 1968. In the fall of 1968, structure 105A was completed and became the control outlet of the lake. Draining of Bay Lake through S-105A began on Dec. 20, 1968. The headwater elevation at S-105A represented the lake level until Aug. 25, 1969, when a dike was constructed 200 ft upstream from the control structure. The lake elevation was then independent of the headwater elevation at S-105A. The dike was removed in August 1970 as the lake refilled. Since August 1970, lake elevation regulated by pumpage from ground water.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum daily elevation, 95.20 ft, Sept. 11, 2017; minimum daily, 85.62 ft, Aug. 23, 24, 25, 1969, except when lake was drained in 1970.
