02339500 CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVER AT WEST POINT, GA
LOCATION - Lat 32°53'11.9", long 85°10'53.7" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Troup County, GA, Hydrologic Unit 03130002, on right bank just downstream from Oseligee Creek at West Point, 1.0 mile upstream from bridge on US 29, 2.5 miles downstream from West Point Dam and at mile 198.9.
DRAINAGE AREA - 3,550 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP-682: 1920, drainage area; WSP-972: 1931-32; WSP-1504: 1912, 1916-17.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD -
DISCHARGE: August 1896 to current year.
GAGE HEIGHT: October 1998 to current year.
GAGE - Satellite telemetry with a water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 551.78 feet above North American Vertical Datum (NAVD) of 1988. Prior to October 20, 1912, a non-recording gage was located at site 0.8 miles downstream at datum 2.83 feet lower. From October 20, 1912, to January 25, 1925, a non-recording gage was located at site 500 feet upstream at present datum.
COOPERATION - U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Mobile District.
REMARKS - Gage-height records are generally good. Discharge records are generally good except for estimated discharges, which are poor. Additional details on the accuracy of the records can be obtained by contacting the USGS South Atlantic Water Science Center at gs-w-ga_nwisweb_data_inquiries@usgs.gov.

Flow regulated by Lake Sidney Lanier since January 1956 and by West Point Lake since October 1974.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum stage known since at least 1827, that of December 10, 1919. Flood in 1886 reached a stage of 25.6 feet at former site and datum, from flood marks by National Weather Service; corresponding discharge was 92,800 cfs.
EXTREMES FOR PERIOD OF RECORD - Maximum discharge, 134,000 cfs, December 10, 1919, from rating curve extended above 80,000 cfs on basis of computation of peak flow over Landale Dam; maximum gage height, 30.00 feet (29.25 feet at present site),December 10, 1919, at site then in use, from floodmarks; minimum daily discharge, 224 cfs, September 12, 1925.
