LOCATION - Lat 32°42'22", long 89°40'19" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, in NE 1/4 NW 1/4 sec.22, T.10 N., R.6 E., Leake County, MS, Hydrologic Unit 03180001, Choctaw Meridian, near center of main span on downstream side of new bridge 101.4 completed in spring of 2013 on State Highway 16, 1.5 mi east of Ofahoma, 3.5 mi upstream from mouth, and 8.5 mi southwest of Carthage.
DRAINAGE AREA - 469 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1204: 1948. WSP 1504: 1949. WDR MS-80-1: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - October 1943 to current year. Daily mean gage heights published since October 1971. Prior to October 1947 published as Yokahockany River near Ofahoma.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder.  Datum of gage is 305.04 ft above NAVD of 1988, (Reference Frame NAD_83 (2011) (EPOCH:2010.0000) GEOID18).  Prior to March 13, 2024, the datum of gage was 306.15 ft NGVD of 1929.  Prior to June 10, 1988, at datum 5.00 ft. higher.  Prior to Sept. 5, 1962, nonrecording gage at same site.

REMARKS - Records good, except for periods of estimated data which are considered poor. Satellite telemeter at station.

INSTRUMENTATION - 8-inch Design Analysis H-340 (Sn 3143) tipping-bucket precipitation gage was re-located to post at 2 by 3 by 4-foot aluminum gage house box, over mid-channel. Top of the collection funnel is ~ 30 feet above low water channel and is not equipped with a wind shield.

Maximum daily sum = 4.17 inches on Sep 26, 2002 (TS Isadore)

Maximum accumulated sum = 7.16 inches on Sep 26-27, 2002 (TS Isadore)

Maximum daily sum = 6.87 inches on Oct 30, 2019

Maximum accumulated sum = 10.80 inches on Feb 10-13, 2020

REMARKS - Rainfall is recorded at a resolution of 0.01 inch with a 25 inch/hour maximum recorder rate.
