03027500 EAST BRANCH CLARION RIVER AT EAST BRANCH CLARION RIVER DAM, PA
LOCATION - Lat 41°33'11", long 78°35'47" referenced to North American Datum of 1927, Elk County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 05010005, on left bank 700 ft upstream from Middle Fork, 0.5 mi downstream from East Branch Clarion River Dam, and 1.2 mi northeast of Glen Hazel.
DRAINAGE AREA - 73.2 mi².
REVISIONS HISTORY - WSP 1235: Drainage area.
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - 1949-91 (continuous record), 2005-2008 (measurements only), 2009 to current year.
GAGE - Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,517.58 ft above National Geodetic Vertical Datum of 1929 (Corps of Engineers benchmark). Satellite telemetry at station.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District.
REMARKS - Flow regulated since June 1952 by East Branch Clarion River Lake 0.5 mi upstream. Records for water year 2014 are good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Records for water year 2015 are good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Records for water year 2016 are good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Records for water year 2017 are good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Records for water year 2018 are good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor. Records for water year 2019 are good except those for estimated daily discharges, which are poor.
EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD - Flood of May 28, 1946 reached a stage of 8.3 ft from graph based on gage readings at site 1,000 ft downstream and at a different datum, discharge, 4,000 ft³/s.
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS

INSTRUMENTATION - Water quality meter, measuring water temperature, specific conductance, pH, dissolved oxygen, and turbidity, interfaced with a data collection platform with 15-minute recording interval.
REMARKS -

The reporting precision of the turbidity probe in low turbidity water is +/- 0.3 FNU, therefore the lowest reportable value, 0 FNU, does not necessarily indicate a condition of zero turbidity. The reporting precision of the turbidity probe in high turbidity water (>1,000 FNU) is +/- 5 percent of the reported value.

Historically water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius.

Interruptions in the record are due to equipment malfunctions or erroneous data.

For water year 2014, water temperature, pH, and dissolved oxygen records rated good. Specific conductance records rated good, except for July 23 to September 30, which are rated fair. Turbidity records are rated fair, except for October 1 to November 5 and May 16 to June 9, which are poor.

For water year 2015, records for water temperature are rated good, except for December 11-April 1, which are rated fair, and for April 2 to August 8, which are rated poor. Records for specific conductance are rated good, except for June 30 to August 5, which are rated fair. Records for pH are rated good, except for June 30 to September 30, which are rated fair. Records for dissolved oxygen are rated good, except for June 30 to August 5, which are rated fair. Records for turbidity are rated fair.

For water year 2016, records for water temperature, specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen, and pH are rated good. Records for turbidity are rated fair.

For water year 2017, records for water temperature, specific conductance, pH, and dissolved oxygen are rated good. Turbidity records are fair.

For water year 2018, records for water temperature, specific conductance, pH, and dissolved oxygen are rated good. Records from the primary turbidity sensor are rated fair, except for October 24 to April 24, which are poor. Records from the backup (secondary) turbidity sensor are rated fair, except for October 1-April 24, which are poor.

For water year 2019, records for water temperature, specific conductance and dissolved oxygen are rated good. Records for pH are rated good except from June 12-20, which are rated fair. Records of primary and secondary turbidity are rated fair.

DISSOLVED OXYGEN: Maximum, 14.1mg/L, February 9, 2019; minimum, 8.9 mg/L, several occurrences in water year 2017. TURBIDITY: Maximum, 150 FNU, October 22, 2016; minimum, 0.0 FNU, several occurrences.
