03039040 ALLEGHENY RIVER AT LOCK AND DAM 5 NEAR FREEPORT, PA
LOCATION - Lat 40°41'05", long 79°40'03" referenced to North American Datum of 1983, Armstrong County, PA, Hydrologic Unit 05010006, on right bank lock wall 660 ft upstream from low head dam at Lock 5, 2,320 ft upstream of mouth with the Kiskiminetas River, and 5.0 miles downsteam of Allegheny Lock and Dam No. 6 and 0.4 miles east of State Route 128.
DRAINAGE AREA - 9,354 mi².
SURFACE-WATER RECORDS
PERIOD OF RECORD - September 2016 to current year.
GAGE - Water stage recorder with reference staff gage. Telemetry at site.
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U.S. Geological Survey in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District.
REMARKS -  
WATER-QUALITY RECORDS
PERIOD OF DAILY RECORD - WATER TEMPERATURE: July 2010 to current year (seasonal operation, June to November). DISSOLVED OXYGEN: July 2010 to November, 2017 (seasonal operation, June to November). SPECIFIC CONDUCTANCE: June, 2018 to current year (seasonal operation, June to November).
COOPERATION - Station established and maintained by the U. S. Geological Survey in cooperation the the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Pittsburgh District.
INSTRUMENTATION - Continuous water-quality monitor interfaced with a data collection platform with 15-minute recording interval. Satellite telemetry at station. From June 2010 to November, 2017, monitor was located on the left bank. Monitor was relocated to the right bank (upstream lock wall) in June, 2018.
REMARKS -

Data collection suspended during the winter months. Other interruptions in the record were due to equipment malfunctions. Data recorded by the instrumentation may not be representative of the entire river width.

Historically, water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius were not reported. Water temperature sensors now have the ability to accurately read water temperatures below 0 degrees Celsius. 

Cross-sectional water quality data is available upon request.

For water year 2014, water temperature and dissolved oxygen records are rated good.

For water year 2015, records for water temperature and dissolved oxygen are rated good.

For water year 2016, records for water temperature are rated good. Records for dissolved oxygen are rated fair, except for July 13 to August 10, which are poor.

For water year 2017, records for water temperature and dissolved oxygen are rated good.

For water year 2018, records for water temperature and specific conductance are rated good.

Beginning in water year 2019, water quality records are not rated as "excellent", "good", "fair", or "poor".
